PASTOR TODD’S WEEKLY WORD

Last Sunday at Southern Heights, Pastor Jeff Fernandez taught from Joshua 4 about how God’s people were asked to grab some sizeable rocks from the bottom of the Jordan River as they crossed it (while God was dividing the water and leaving them a dry path to cross), shoulder those boulders, and then stack them on the far side of the river as a reminder of His faithfulness.  It’s a great scene in the Bible, and if you have never read it, I highly recommend!

Pastor Jeff F challenged everyone present last Sunday to recall moments and incidents of God’s action and involvement in their lives from the previous seven days…

-anxiety was relieved
-hope was found
-someone came to Salvation
-there was some sort of healing
-a relationship was restored
-forgiveness was offered and/or accepted
-a prayer was answered
-strength came at just the right moment
-fear was removed and replaced with peace and courage

Everyone was encouraged to keep looking for these reminders of God’s faithfulness throughout the coming week.  Wherever there is goodness and blessing in your life, may you not mistake it as anything less than God Himself.  And may you not miss a single chance to be grateful to Him for it, and to grow and encourage your own faith as you celebrate the goodness of our God as He does the stuff only The One True God can do!

Cozy Fall Sunday – October 18

Sometimes you just want to be cozy in the fall.  So on Sunday, October 18 we will give you the chance.  Wear a sweater or sweatshirt, wear something soft, bring a blanket and/or your favorite stuffed animal, bring your favorite hot beverage.  The church will provide cider and donut holes and coffee.  It will be a nice cozy fall Sunday to remember. (invite your friends, too)

PIZZA WITH THE PASTOR

Sunday, October 11

If you are new around Southern Heights, Pastor Todd wants to meet with you and share lunch – on us.  Join him for some pizza immediately after worship on October 11.  You can ask questions if you want, or just chat and have a nice lunch.  Contact the office (shcrc1@gmail.com) if you are interested so we can order the right amount of pizza.  (Also let us know if you have any food restrictions.)

Education Hour

9am to 10am is our Education Hour for Middle School, High School and Adults.

NOTE – There will be NO Ed Hour on October 25 for Fall Break

Middle School and High School will start in the Student Room and will have a lesson specifically geared for them.

The Adult Class will meet in the Conference Room and will start a new series about Second Thessalonians by Ben Stuart from “RightNow Media”.

Student Ministries (1st & 3rd Sunday Nights)

Student Life Ministries (Middle and High School) meet on the 1st and 3rd Sunday evenings from 6-8pm.  They will have some time together with food and then separate into their own groups with lessons geared especially for them by their own leaders.  A great experience to meet and know and be known and to learn about Jesus with others their own age.

1st & 3rd Wednesdays

Join us at 5:15 for a light pizza supper with chips and cookies.  Then from 6 to 7:30pm we offer Gems and Cadets for 1st to 5th grade girls and boys.  Men’s and Women’s Ministries meet from 6 to 7:30 also.  A fun night of ministry for all.

Love Offering for Paid Staff

It’s that wonderful time of year in which we get to show our love to our staff in a tangible way. October is Clergy Appreciation month and time for our annual Love Offering. For those of you who have never heard of our Love Offering: welcome to an opportunity to show love and appreciation to our hard-working staff here at Southern Heights!

What a gift we have in those who serve and lead our church family. God has blessed us with a group of people who authentically display the love of Christ to us in each of their specific roles. They are worthy of a big thank-you.

Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. (1 Thessalonians 5:13a)

Please make a financial gift this month and mark it for “Love Offering”.
